Day three is done. I (Todd) was expecting to have to deal with a bunch of fences today but to my surprise we only had one obstacle to go around and that only required jumping out of the canoe and pushing it around a overhanging tree. But let's start at the beginning. I woke up at 6:15 but realized I could roll over and sleep for another hour before crawling out of the tent. When I finally did get out of the tent Scott had the water going and it was ready for breakfast. Breakfast on the trail for us is always the same, instant oatmeal with nuts berries and granola. Its quick, easy and still satisfying for a long days paddle. We then loaded up the van with our day packs and drove to the put it. Before shoving off we did our daily stretches. The first stretch of the river today was amazing and we should have some great pictures of it up later.
Other highlights of the day included paddling the length of Sauk Lake (9 Miles), eating lunch at a scenic overlook that had stuffed coyotes hidden throughout the area, and fighting against the wind no matter what direction we were travelling. When we finally did pull off the lake and secured our gear the skies opened up and the rain came pouring down. This meant that we had to cancel our first meet and greet but if you missed us you can stop by Melrose City Park tomorrow from 6:30 to 8:00.
Because we cancelled the meet and great it meant we had some down time. We drove into Sauk Center and ate at the Sauk Hop Diner which is a family friendly 50's theme restaurant. The food was fantastic. Scott hung out there for a few hours while I ran over to the Sauk River Watershed District Offices for a Board meeting.
Tomorrow WJON Radio will be riding with us for the day (if the rain doesn't scare them off).
