Fantastic day! We got up early at Sinclair Lewis Campground and took down our camp. Abby Faulkner from WJON arrived shortly afterwords and helped us run our shuttle and to spend the day paddling with us. We portaged over the Sauk Centre Dam and immediately the river changed character yet again. It became narrow and very curvy. We lucked out and didn't come across any downed trees or fences. We saw lots of birds (Red Winged and Yellow Head Blackbirds, Great Blue Heron's, and an Eagle), muskrats, and turtles. We also saw cows drinking from the river and as we came paddling by the ran along the shore but gave us an evil look like we were bothering some kind of private cow party.
We made great time, and the rain stayed away (mostly) but when we arrived at Melrose the decision was made to cancel our Meet and Greet but the DNR stopped by to say hi and to see how our trip was going. Scott and I decided to eat some local pizza from John Doughs and washed it down with 1919 rootbeer. Right now we are sitting inside my uncles urban cabin in downtown Melrose, updating our website and taking showers.
For the next few days we may not be able to update our website but we will do our best.
